OWEN SPENCE
ATLYX
Owen is a resident in Atlanta, Georgia, and has spent far longer than anyone cares to admit studying how music works in video games. Owen creates original music and covers, mostly of video game music. Owen is known in the community of the video game Destiny for his contributions to archive and preserve the music in the games, as well as for community-spanning projects such as Geomantic and his love for and fan works of Destiny’s Music of the Spheres album.
Original projects include albums such as The Bestial Universe, This Christmas Night, Bound By Luck and Fate, and Music for Another Day. Owen also composes music for a number of occasions, such as holidays and friends’ birthdays, as well as miscellaneous pieces. Owen is also a hobbyist graphic designer and made many of the designs and images seen in Oakhost’s projects.
Owen works with Oakhost to archive aspects of video games such as music, sound effects, and art. Owen has thoroughly documented video game music by Halo composers Martin O’Donnell and Michael Salvatori, and has worked to make their lesser-known soundtracks more accessible. Owen is a member of Odyssey Sound Team, a group that has documented the source samples for music and sound effects in video games.
As part of his efforts to archive video game music, Owen is also working on recreating Michael Salvatori’s soundtrack to Stubbs The Zombie from scratch using the Kurzweil K2500, which was used in the original game. Owen put out much of this work for the game’s 20th anniversary in 2025, with work continuing to finish the rest. Owen plans to work with Neo Te Aika to recreate the unreleased soundtrack to Septerra Core: Legacy of the Creator in the same vein. Owen also created the music for the trailer to Myth: Twice Born Edition, an HD remaster of Bungie’s Myth duology that was 16 years in the making.
Notable projects spearheaded by Owen include The Discarded Instrument, a full piano adaptation of Destiny’s Music of the Spheres using the original source sheet music from Abbey Road, directly licensed from Bungie. Owen also worked with Laura Intravia on a tribute to Paul McCartney’s video game single. Additionally, Owen acted as creative lead on Discarded No More, a standalone fantasy short story that was narrated by prolific voice actor Tim Dababo. On Discarded No More, Owen drafted a story to be fleshed out by one of the writers from Destiny, and wrote a full ambient score to go under the audiobook narration. Lastly, Owen created sacred geometry and animated artwork for it.
Owen is currently working on an album of original music with his friend Breshi, additional covers, and more original music.
The signature blue moon painting used by Owen starting in 2026 was painted by his friend Lenéa Ferry.
